Discover Valencia's big new openings for 2027: the Sorolla exhibition, elite sporting events, the Espai Valdés and Gisety's best routes.

What to do in Valencia in 2027? The 4 major premieres you can't miss

Valencia and its way of life are a constant draw that alone justifies a getaway to this great Mediterranean capital. But 2027 is shaping up to be a historic year, packed with major cultural openings, international sporting events and urban projects set to transform the city.

If you're planning your next holiday or looking for unforgettable weekend plans, take note. These are the big new arrivals proving that the light and soul of the Mediterranean are more alive than ever.

1. Sorolla's big year in the historic heart of Valencia

Few openings are as eagerly awaited as the arrival of Joaquín Sorolla's work from the Hispanic Society in New York. The historic Marqués de Campo Palace (now the City Museum) will offer 2,000 square metres of exhibition space across 15 rooms devoted, for the first time, to large-format paintings by Valencia's most universal artist.

Strolling through the historic centre and soaking up the Mediterranean light that Sorolla immortalised will be a must for residents and visitors alike.

2. A world-class sporting calendar

International sport will take over Valencia's streets and waters all year round. Basketball fans have a date from 18 to 21 February with the Copa del Rey, while the European Athletics Indoor Championships will fill the city from 4 to 7 March.

On top of that, SailGP's spectacular flying catamarans return to La Marina on 4 and 5 September. To end the year in style, the Half Marathon (24 October), the MotoGP Grand Prix at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo (26–28 November) and the prestigious Valencia Marathon (early December) will cement the city as the capital of running and adrenaline.

3. New spaces for art and the sea: Espai Valdés and Museu de la Mar

Contemporary art gets a new home in Parc Central with the Espai Valdés, set in a restored historic industrial building that will house around thirty never-before-seen works donated by Manolo Valdés himself, with free admission.

Meanwhile, Valencia's seafaring tradition now has its own home in the Cabanyal fishing district: the Museu de la Mar, recently opened in the iconic Casa dels Bous, the historic spot where oxen helped fishermen haul their boats out of the water. It opened in September 2026 and admission is free.

4. The centenary of La Devesa de El Saler and the Central Market countdown

2027 marks a unique milestone for Valencia's nature and heritage: one hundred years since the City Council bought the Devesa de El Saler forest, the green lung that protects L’Albufera Natural Park. A celebration of the environmental heritage and conservation of Valencia's most precious natural setting, it also starts the countdown to another great anniversary: the centenary of the jewel of our architecture, Valencia's Central Market, which turns one hundred in 2028.
